Capture Volumes

Now that you have your kit, it’s time to set up your cameras in your space.

You can mount your cameras/phones using any method you'd like, as long as the camera is static and doesn't wobble! This means you could use a tripod, goose neck clamp, suction cup or any other mount you may have.

Standard Camera Layouts

Below is a tool which outlines the number of people and size of volume which can be feasibly captured by the iPhone app. For custom or bespoke volumes please contact support@move.ai

Heights:

Follow the diagrams below as best as possible when positioning your phones, to ensure you have even coverage 360 degrees around the capture volume and that at least two phones can see the actor at all locations in the volume. Set the phones at alternating heights around the volume. For example; cam01 - 120cm, cam02 - 180cm, cam03 - 120cm, cam04 - 180cm and so on.

Field of view:

All iPhone models 11 and newer have the ultra wide lens, providing a field of view (FOV) of 120°, whereas the iPhone 8-X have a 1x zoom lens with a FOV of 70°. As a result of the narrow FOV of the 1x zoom lens, the phone may need to be positioned further away from the capture volume than with the ultra wide lens.

Frame rate and resolution:

Please note that resolution will determine the volume size and frame rate will determine the motion type you can capture. As the app is currently in BETA, we may change resolution and frame rate at times and so this may result in different output performance.
